Moses
received a great commission from God after being in the wilderness for forty
years. I believe that after such a long period of time Moses must have forgotten
about going back to Egypt. Having grown
up in the palace, he had the knowledge of the king’s affairs.
He grew
up in the palace but knew his true identity as a Hebrew. One day while in the
field he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew man for forced labor and because of
this, Moses killed the Egyptian and buried him in the sand. When he discovered
that the King knew what he had done and wanted to kill him, he fled for his
life and settled in Median.
It was then
that God revealed himself to him. While taking care of Jethro’s flock Moses saw
a burning bush and the Lord revealed to him his great commission of delivering
the Israelite's out the land of Egypt. But Moses doubted his calling. He gave
God excuses of how he was not a great man to go before Pharaoh. God assured him that
He would be with him. He asked God, ‘Whom should I tell the Israelite's sent me?’
Then God replied “I Am Who I Am.” Tell them ‘I Am sent you.’- The God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
But Moses told God he stammered; he wasn’t eloquent in speech. Again God sent him Aaron his brother to speak for him in front of Pharaoh. This shows that God had already gone before him. He had spoken to Aaron his brother to meet up with Moses and planned how they would present themselves to Pharaoh. Aaron was to act as Moses mouthpiece to the people. God told Moses that he would be as God to Aaron telling him what to say to King Pharaoh as the Lord guided him.
His
first instruction was to gather the elders of Israel and to tell them that the Lord
cared about them and had seen their sufferings and promised to take them out of
their troubles in Egypt and lead them to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites,
Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites a fertile land flowing with milk
and honey.
God
assured Moses that the elders would listen to him and that they would accompany
him to the King of Egypt. God had already gone before Moses and prepared the
hearts of the elders of Israel to be of great assistance to this great
commission.
When
God commissions you to do something, do be afraid, just trust him! He already
has put in place along your path people to favor you and to be of great
assistance to your calling. As He did for Moses. He also used Moses staff to
perform great miracles in the presence of Pharaoh so that he would recognize His mighty
power and authority. Remember the Red sea? Yea, God will manifest his great
wonders to his chosen whenever the need arises. His got your back!!
