It is
evident that we serve a God of wonders when we look at Abraham’s story. An old
man who was told to leave his father’s place and settle in the land of Canaan,
he is given a promise that he will become a father of nations having surpassed
child bearing age. At his age he leaves with his family to the great land and
the lord immensely blesses him with wealth and riches.
He was
told that he would become a father of many nations, kings would come from him
and that his descendants would become as numerous as the stars in the sky.
Sarah
found it hard to understand God’s promise at that point; the promise made her
wonder and even laugh at herself. She couldn’t imagine herself carrying a baby
and nursing at her old age.But
Abraham just believed the promise and waited for that wonder. Note, during
Abraham’s time nobody had ever gotten a child in their old age. It was unheard
of and so for Abraham to believe it, it just took the hand of God. It was great
faith. That is why it was credited to him as righteousness. At the appointed
time Sarah conceived and gave birth to Isaac at their old age. The son that brought much joy to them.
When
the Israelite's left Egypt they came at the Red sea and God performed
a wonder; the Lord swept the sea back by a strong east wind and turned the
seabed into dry land. The Israelite's went into the middle of the sea on dry
land. But when the Egyptians pursued them he clogged their chariots wheels making
it hard to drive the chariots. The Lord overthrew them and tossed them into the
midst of the sea.
God
caused food to fall like rain from the sky for the Israelite's. In the evening quail
came and covered the camp and in the morning dew lay around the camp. When the
dew was gone, thin flakes like frost were on the desert ground. So the Lord rained
down bread in the morning and at twilight meat for them to eat. What a Wonder
God!
He also
provided for them water to drink at Mt. Sinai by ordering Moses to strike a rock with the same staff he
used at the Red sea and water came out. He brought water out of a rock for the Israelite's to quench their thirst.
Looking
at all this Awesome Manifestations of God’s works; one can’t help but marvel! If
you are in a situation whereby you need to see the mighty manifestations of God’s
wonders just like Abraham believed that’s all you have to do.
Who can
bring forth water out of a rock? Who can rain down food from the sky? But God! Who
can make a way through a sea? But God! Who can give Abraham and Sarah a child
at an old age? But our wonder working God!! Have unshakable Faith!!
